Predatory lenders take lending practices to extremes. They charge excessive fees and interest rates and extend loans to individuals who have little or no ability to pay. They target low-income individuals, individuals with poor or no credit, and minorities and recent immigrants. A typical predatory loan has a very high interest rate, a long prepayment penalty, and an adjustable interest rate or a balloon payment. The terms of the loan are often not disclosed until after you have signed your loan documents and it's too late to back out of the transaction.
